Warvin Organization for Child Rights strives to protect children's rights and promote their well-being by providing safe, inclusive, and child-friendly environments where every child can heal, learn, grow and thrive. We strengthen the resilience of children, families and communities affected by conflict and crises, regardless of their background.

Our History

Warvin Organization for Child Rights was founded in response to the long-term impact of the 2014 Yazidi genocide and the urgent need to support children affected by conflict, displacement, and trauma in Sinjar, Iraq. The idea for Warvin began in 2018, when our founder, Sadoon Barakat, witnessed the positive impact of the Friends of Waldorf Education's Emergency Pedagogy programme on Yazidi children living in displacement camps. Inspired by this experience, he envisioned establishing a local organization dedicated to protecting children's rights and supporting their healing and development through trauma-informed care and education.

After several years of learning, collaboration, and practical experience in Emergency Pedagogy, Trauma Pedagogy, and psychosocial support, Warvin Organization was officially registered in Iraq on 23 July 2024. Following its registration, the team worked voluntarily for eight months, providing psychosocial support activities and creating safe, child-friendly spaces for vulnerable children in Sinjar before securing its first external project funding.

Today, Warvin is a community-based organization committed to protecting children's rights and promoting their well-being through trauma-informed psychosocial support, quality education, Emergency Pedagogy, Trauma Pedagogy, and Waldorf-inspired educational approaches. Working alongside children, families, educators, and communities, Warvin continues to help children heal, learn, grow, and thrive. The organization also continues to expand its programmes and strengthen its partnerships, contributing to a safer, more resilient and more hopeful future for children in Sinjar and the wider region, while striving to extend its impact to other communities in the future.
